Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 grams) of ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced.
  • 1 carrot, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 pound (450 grams) spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese to serve
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  • In a large skillet or saucepan, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Use a spoon to crumble the meat into tiny pieces while it cooks.
  • Add chopped onion, chopped garlic, chopped carrot, and chopped celery to the pan. Sauté for approximately 5 minutes until the vegetables become tender.
  • Add crushed tomatoes and red wine (if using). Stir in dried basil, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat, cover, and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Remove and keep aside.
  • After the sauce boils, stir in whole milk or heavy cream. Allow it to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Serve bolognese sauce over cooked spaghetti. Garnish with freshly grated parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
